2025 Archived CEDS Updates

Meeting #1 Friday, March 28, 2025

The Central UP Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) Committee, combined with the Regional Housing Partnership (RHP) Committee, met for the first time in 2025 virtually on Friday March 28. Our focus for this meeting was on Women in Skilled Trades as part of the Workforce Development portion of the CEDS. Amy Kraatz, the Talent Development Liaison for the Michigan department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO), who informed the committee on a brief overview of the ongoing programs at LEO along with opportunities for technical assistance. Dana LaLonde also joined us from Women In Skilled Trades (WIST) and she gave us an overview on how WIST connects and equips women to enter the trades through apprenticeship programs and more.

Meeting #2 May 29, 2025

 

The Central UP Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) Committee, combined with the Regional Housing Partnership (RHP) Committee, met for the second time in 2025 in person in Marquette. We were joined by Anne Giroux, the new Director of Development and Investment Services for InvestUP, who presented on the recent and upcoming projects of InvestUP's Build UP program. Nicki Basch from Great Lakes Housing Services presented an overview of the new organization, Great Lakes Housing Services. Ryan Soucy also presented on rental statistics in our 6-county central region, along with current grant and training opportunities.

Meeting #3 August 13, 2025

The CEDS and Regional Housing Partnership committees will be meeting with Amy Hovey, Executive Director at the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) on August 13th at the Marquette Township Hall Community Room, located at 1000 Commerce Dr, Marquette. A zoom link will be made available for those who cannot attend in person. Lunch will be provided.

 Meeting #4 September 25, 2025

The CEDS and Regional Housing Partnership committees met Thursday, September 25th at the conference room at Michigan Works in Marquette (1498 Odovero Dr, Marquette, MI 49855). 

The MI Neighborhood 3.0 funding program from MSHDA is set to launch on October 6. MI Neighborhood 3.0 Q & A is scheduled for September 30, 2025, at 1:30 P.M.

The committee reviewed the MSHDA MI Neighborhoods 3.0 funding opportunity announcement and discussed local resources. The committee also discussed the priorities of the previous CEDS document, along with a discussion on possible regional projects to be included in the update.

 Meeting #5 November 20, 2025

 

The CEDS and Regional Housing Partnership committees met for the fifth and final time for 2025. Our special guest was Jennifer Rigterink, Assistant Director, State & Federal Affairs at the Michigan Municipal League to share details on the proposed MI Home program, which could provide technical assistance and resources to help communities advance housing-ready policies and projects.
